What is an Alternative Investment?

An alternative investment is a financial asset that does not fall into one of the conventional investment categories. Conventional categories include stocks, bonds, and cash. Most alternative investment assets are held by institutional investors or accredited, high-net-worth individuals because of their complex nature, lack of regulation, and degree of risk.Alternative investments include private equity or venture capital, hedge funds, managed futures, art and antiques, commodities, and derivatives contracts. Real estate is also often classified as an alternative investment.

Douglas Blake - Founder and CEO

Douglas Blake Is the Founder and CEO of Alt Street. In addition, he currently serves as Managing Director of Fixed Income and Alternative Investments at Benchmark Investments, Inc. He has a Series 7 and 63 securities license, and is insurance licensed. Mr. Blake has over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Mr. Blake holds an Bachelor’s Degree from the SUNY Oswego School of Business, and an Associate’s Degree from SUNY Cobleskill in Business Administration.

In addition to a successful career in wealth management, Mr. Blake has appeared as both a contributor and correspondent in financial publications and media. He served as Wall Street Correspondent for CCTV News, appearing on "Biz Asia" and "News Update" for China’s Largest News Network. He produced “Wall Street This Week” for China Radio International. He served as a contributor to the Economic Times of Mumbai, and on their prime time program "ET NOW", as well as "NDTV Profit" in New Delhi, India. He is also a contributor with Thomson Reuters.
